The weather was just right Saturday for a stroll around the Halifax Public Gardens. The gardens are typically off-limits for four-legged friends, but a special visitor from the Museum of Natural History got the VIP treatment. Gus, the museum’s 103-year-old gopher tortoise, was invited for an afternoon walk. Staff took him out for a September stroll to enjoy some “late summer sights from tortoise heights.” They also answered questions about Gus from the public. Gus turned 103 years old in August. He was born and raised in Florida, before being brought to Nova Scotia in 1942. Even at his age, Gus enjoys getting outside. According to the museum staff, when the weather is nice, Gus will take an afternoon stroll in the museum’s backyard, but on cold or rainy days he explores the galleries inside.
