TORONTO - Air Canada says a flight bound for Germany made an unscheduled landing in Montreal on Wednesday night following an altercation between two passengers.

Air Canada spokesman John Reber says the incident occurred on flight 872 that was headed to Frankfurt from Toronto.

Reber says the flight crew called ahead and police were waiting when the plane landed at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport at about 7:30 p.m.

Reber says one passenger was taken into custody and the flight departed at 8:40 p.m.

Reber said he had no other details about the passenger who was taken off the flight.

Reber says the other passenger remained on the flight.

"This is one individual who caused an altercation and it is now a police matter," Reber said.

"The flight crew followed normal procedures ... the police were called in advance to meet the aircraft when it landed."
