DUBAI - News reports say Arab television Al Jazeera has aired an interview with Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout and Australian photographer Nigel Brennan who were kidnapped in Somalia last month.

Lindhout, a freelance television and print reporter from Sylvan Lake, Alta. was kidnapped on August 23 near Mogadishu along with Brennan, 37 and a Somali journalist.

Iran-based TV news channel Press TV reports that the footage showed Lindhout wearing an Islamic robe and surrounded by gunmen.

In the video aired Tuesday on Al Jazeera TV the kidnappers accused Canada and Australia of "taking part in the destruction of Somalia", Press TV reports.

Lindhout was speaking to a camera but the tape's audio was not aired. Al Jazeera said the pair were appealing to their governments to work toward gaining their release, Press TV reports. Lindhout had previously reported for Press TV from Baghdad.

Reporters Without Borders in Montreal said earlier this month that the kidnappers had demanded $2.5 million for the release of the three journalists.
