MONTREAL - William Shatner is being beamed back to his hometown this spring to receive an honorary degree from his alma mater, McGill University.

The 80-year-old former "Star Trek" star will be honoured during convocation on June 2.

Shatner graduated from McGill in 1952 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

While studying there, he was president of McGill's radio workshop and was active in campus theatre productions.

The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor was also recently awarded with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for lifetime achievement.

He now stars in the sitcom "$#*! My Dad Says," originally adapted from a popular Twitter account.
