Police have arrested a woman in connection with a fire at a Winnipeg rooming house that killed four people and left two others in critical condition.

Lulonda Lynn Flett, 40, has been charged with four counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder. Police said the woman was arrested Saturday afternoon and she remains in custody.

Three men and one woman died after flames tore through a two-storey rooming house in the Point Douglas neighborhood of Winnipeg early Saturday morning.

Reporting from Winnipeg, CTV's Jillian Taylor said on Sunday that Flett is believed to have had an on-going dispute with one of the women who lived at the house. She was arrested one block away at a hotel bar.

Police said witnesses saw a woman using an unknown accelerant on the front porch to ignite the building before fleeing the scene. The fire blocked the main entrance to the house and appears to have hampered escape and rescue efforts.

The names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of the families.

The house and general area are known for illegal drug sales. Police say rival gangs have been attacking area homes and businesses for control of the drug trade, though this incident does not appear to be linked.
