Fame has arrived early for five-year-old Liam Hirsch, whose antics during an Edmonton Oilers playoff game have turned him into a celebrity at school.

The die-hard Oilers fan was cheering, jumping and shaking it in the stands at Game 6 of the team's second-round playoff series in Edmonton Sunday, in hopes of appearing on the Jumbotron.

"He was just doing whatever he could to get the cameraman's attention," Liam's mother, Jamie, told CTV Edmonton. "He tried super hard."

Liam never made it onto the Jumbotron during that game, which ended with the Oilers crushing the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 7-1. However, he was spotted by the game's broadcast crew, who featured him on TV several times.

The NHL later combined several clips of Liam's antics into a GIF on Twitter, which has received more than 3,000 likes since Sunday.

"He was definitely the talk of the classroom this morning," Jamie said of her son. "The girls were chasing him on the playground at recess."

Liam was shy in front of CTV's cameras, and he says he's embarrassed by the whole thing.

However, the incident ended up working out in his favour. Jamie says she and her husband were on the fence about taking him to Anaheim for Game 7, but now, they're determined to do it.

"After his dancing and cheering went crazy, we thought OK, how do we not take him?"

But that's not all Liam will have to cheer about. The Hirsch family is also planning a DisneyLand visit during their trip to Anaheim.

The Oilers will face the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday in a winner-take-all Game 7.
