TORONTO -- England striker Jermain Defoe will miss Toronto FC's weekend game against the Columbus Crew with a slight hamstring strain.

Manager Ryan Nelsen says Defoe, who had a scan Tuesday, will be out "for the short-term."

"Not a major thing but definitely unavailable this weekend," he said.

The 31-year-old Defoe was substituted in the 61st minute of Toronto's 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. He went to the dressing room, favouring his left thigh.

Defoe has scored all three of Toronto's goals this season.

Toronto (2-0-1) is already without Canadian midfielder Jonathan Osorio, who is also dealing with a hamstring issue.

Goalkeeper Julio Cesar and defender Doneil Henry are also nursing knocks to the knee from the Salt Lake game. Cesar was back in training Wednesday while Henry sat out.

And the club is keeping its fingers crossed that the league's disciplinary committee does not sanction captain Steven Caldwell for a studs-up tackle on the weekend. The centre back was yellow-carded on the play.

Toronto travels to Columbus to play the unbeaten Crew (3-0-0) on Saturday.
