RIO DE JANEIRO -- A look at five Canadian storylines to watch Sunday as Olympic competition continues in Rio de Janeiro:

DIVING DEBUT -- Big things are expected from Canada's women's diving team of Roseline Filion, Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito and Pamela Ware, otherwise known as the "Fab IV." They'll get their first crack at the podium as Abel and Ware team up in the synchronized three-metre springboard event. Abel is going for her second straight medal in the event. She teamed with the retired Emilie Heymans to take the bronze at the 2012 London Games.

LIFE'S A BEACH -- Sarah Pavan will make her Olympic beach volleyball debut, teaming with Heather Bansley against a Dutch duo as women's competition gets underway. Pavan used to play the indoor version of the sport, but traded hardcourt for sand after Canada's volleyball squad failed to qualify for the London Games. Canada is fielding a full complement of four beach volleyball teams at an Olympic Games for the first time.

WELCOME TO THE BIG TIME -- Canada will also be represented in indoor volleyball when the men's team makes its first Olympic appearance since 1992. Canada ended its 24-year Olympic drought by getting the final berth in a last-chance qualifying tournament. They will get a tough welcome back to the Olympic stage when they play their first game against the favoured United States.

BACK IN BLACK -- Canada's artistic gymnastic team vaults into action as qualification for the team final goes Sunday. Canada's team is led by Ellie Black, who was one of the breakout stars of the 2015 Pan Am Games. Black won five medals in Toronto, including three gold.

SHOOTING STAR -- Lynda Kiejko makes her Olympic debut in the women's 10-metre air pistol. She's hoping to build of her success at the 2015 Pan Am Games, where she won gold in the 10-metre and 25-metre events. Kiejko comes from a family of shooters. Her sister and late father are former Olympians.
