STEADY BROOK, N.L. - Three people escaped injury when a chairlift at Marble Mountain Resort in western Newfoundland fell off shortly after the skiers loaded.

All other passengers on the lift were unloaded safely after the accident Saturday afternoon.

The resort, in a new release, said the high-speed quad lift was shut down for the rest of the day as the cause of the accident was investigated.

The lift reopened Sunday afternoon after a government inspector determined it was an isolated incident involving a primary safety indicator failing to detect a cable misalignment.

The resort said that due to the misalignment, the chair grip didn't fully engage the cable and it slipped off once the system came to a stop as it is designed to do.
