Police say the head of a technical school in Montreal who was allegedly kidnapped on Monday in front of his business by a group of men has been found safe.

Montreal police said Reza Mohammad Tehrani-Cohen was released by his alleged abductors in the north end of Montreal late Tuesday afternoon.

"He's now meeting with the investigators of the major crimes unit," Const. Yannick Paradis said.

There was little information available on Tuesday evening about Tehrani-Cohen's disappearance.

Witnesses and police said the man was dragged into a vehicle and abducted in broad daylight Monday. He was grabbed outside the Aviron Technical Institute by a person or persons in a beige Jeep Liberty.

A passerby witnessed the apparent abduction in the suburb of Mount Royal and followed the vehicle but was unable to keep up, CTV Montreal reporter Stephan Giroux reported. The witness also called 911 and reported the licence plate number.

There was apparently no demand for ransom, and there is still no word of a motive.

The 53-year-old Tehrani-Cohen has owned the Aviron trade school for about 15 years, but the school itself has been in existence since 1937.
