Territorial premiers are concerned about surprise funding cuts from the federal government that could trim millions from already-tight budgets.

Yukon Premier Darren Pasloski says changes to how Statistics Canada calculates territorial spending are having unintended effects.

He says they will reduce the territory's annual federal grant by $23 million a year.

The Northwest Territories says its grant will be cut by $34 million.

Nunavut's cut is estimated at more than $50 million.

Pasloski says federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has promised to look into the cuts and get back to the territories by mid-March.

That'll be too late for this year's budget and Pasloski says Yukon is planning its finances assuming it won't get the money.
