JOLIETTE, Que. - Parti Quebecois leadership candidate Veronique Hivon is resigning from the race citing health reasons.

Hivon suspended her campaign last week due to labyrinthitis, which is an inflammation of the inner ear.

Her campaign announced today her condition has deteriorated and says Hivon is suffering from an acute viral infection.

She was one of five people vying to replace Pierre Karl Peladeau, who stepped down last May.

The vote takes place Oct. 5-7.
