The majority of Canadians are satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the first part of the Justin Trudeau mandate, according to the latest survey from Nanos Research.

The survey shows approximately two out of every three Canadians are satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the Liberals so far, with Canadians on the East and West Coasts reporting the highest levels of satisfaction.

Respondents were asked how satisfied or dissatisfied they were with the first part of the Trudeau government mandate, based on what they have seen. Results show 46 per cent of respondents were satisfied and 21 per cent were somewhat satisfied with the government's performance. Seventeen per cent said they were dissatisfied and 11 per cent said they were somewhat dissatisfied.

Satisfaction was higher among women than men, with 72 per cent of female respondents responding positively to the question, compared to 63 per cent positive responses from men.

Respondents aged 50 to 59 were the most satisfied with the Trudeau government, with 73.5 per cent of respondents in that age group saying they were satisfied or somewhat satisfied.

Levels of satisfaction were highest in Atlantic Canada (79 per cent) and British Columbia (74 per cent), and lowest in the Prairies (57 per cent).

Nik Nanos, head of Nanos Research, said satisfaction is "the majority opinion" throughout the country, even in the Prairies.

"It doesn't matter what part of the country you live (in), doesn't matter whether you're young or old, male or female – a majority of Canadians… are satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the Justin Trudeau government," Nanos told CTV News Channel on Thursday.

The data is based on a hybrid survey commissioned by CTV News and conducted by Nanos Research. Individuals were randomly recruited by phone (land-line and cell) using live agents, and the survey was administered online between Dec. 18-21. The random survey of 1,000 Canadians is accurate to 3.1. percentage points plus or minus, 19 times out of 20.
