OTTAWA - The mother of a 13-year-old murder victim says she's got mixed feelings over the Supreme Court of Canada's decision to deny the appeals of two men connected to the sex slaying.

The high court restored the first-degree murder conviction of Joseph Laboucan and ordered a new trial for Michael Briscoe, who was originally acquitted.

Five years ago, Nina Courtepatte was lured to a secluded Edmonton-area golf course where she was raped and beaten to death.

Peacha Atkinson says she's pleased about the court rulings, but she adds they won't bring back her daughter.

Atkinson says her family continues to be traumatized by the murder, which shocked the entire city and created national headlines.

She says she hopes today's rulings will allow her and the rest of her family to start healing and move on with their lives.
