Grab a fork and put on your stretchy pants, the CNE’s annual exhibition is back for another year of deep-fried, bacon-wrapped goodness.

Along with rides and attractions, one of the draws of the two-week fair is the food, and every year vendors attempt to go to edible extremes.

This year is no exception: If you can add sugar or stuff it in a meat patty, it’s probably available at the Ex, which opens at Canadian National Exhibition grounds on Friday and runs until Labour Day.

Bad Boy Burger

If you like Jamaican meat patties, you’ll likely love one stuffed with a burger. Bub’s Badass Burgers is bringing their beefy creations to the Food Building, where carnivores can munch on the “Bad Boy Burger," which features a spicy cheeseburger, honey garlic fried chicken sandwiched between a Jamaican beef patty and dressed up with pepper jack cheese, wasabi cucumber, crispy hickory sticks, tomato, sriracha mayo and coleslaw.

The calorie count on that meal? Er, don’t ask.

Poutine with a twist

Savoury poutine, a Canadian classic, is getting a sugary makeover this year, care of two Humber College Baking and Pastry Arts grads, Alicia Cardoso and Natasha Falcioni.

Their creation includes “fries” made of slices of vanilla-bean cake, and topped three ways:

The Camp Fire - warm chocolate sauce, whipped topping with a maraschino cherry, graham crackers and marshmallows

Maple Bacon Eh? - warm caramel sauce, whipped topping with a maraschino cherry, garnished with real bacon bits and a maple syrup drizzle

The Canadian - warm strawberry sauce, whipped topping with a maraschino cherry, white chocolate chips, and ripe red strawberries.

Still need a traditional cheesy poutine fix? There’s also deep-fried poutine balls on offer this year.

And Tim Hortons is getting in on the action with Timbit Poutine: pint-sized donuts served in a cup with a variety of toppings.

Garlic Snow Crab Fries

The fairgrounds are right by the lake, so it’s only fitting that some surf ‘n turf would figure onto The Ex menu.

Jake’s Lobster is at The Ex this year, with their garlicky snow-crab fries, consisting of seasoned fries topped with garlic aioli and fresh Alaskan snow crab.

Bacon-wrapped grilled cheese sandwiches

You didn’t think we’d leave bacon off the list, did you? Food Building favourite Bacon Nation is back with their latest creation. Just so we’re clear: It’s not a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon inside, it’s a grilled cheese sandwich encased in bacon.

Other food debuts at the CNE include deep-fried cheesecake, red velvet Oreos, a Coffee and Donuts milkshake and a “Baonana split,” which is a Asian bun filled with hazelnut chocolate, sliced bananas, whipped cream and strawberry syrup.

If you’re worried about your waistline, CNE officials say the food is part of the experience.

“The Ex is the time to just cheat a little bit if they want to,” CNE general manager Virginia Ludy told CTV Toronto.

And, for those who like to stick with what they know, don’t fret: Classic CNE treats, such as corn dogs and fudge, are still on offer, too. In fact, the delectable ice cream waffle is celebrating its 75th anniversary at the fair.
