Honda Canada is recalling 35,000 Fit models due to a faulty switch that could catch fire. More than 646,000 cars in total are being recalled worldwide.

The recall affects 2007 and 2008 models.

Faulty power switches could leave windows partially open, causing water to leak inside. This caused two fires in the U.S. and one in South Africa.

"In some cases there has been reported smoke. We didn't have that in Canada," said Richard Jacobs, a Honda Canada spokesperson.

Affected customers will be informed by mail. If they experience problems in the meantime, they can take the car to their dealer for replacement parts.

The company sold about 10,000 Honda Fits last year in Canada, and about 15,000 the year before.
