Do you smell what The Rock is Cooking? Vancouver certainly has.

The city has been the subject of frequent praise from the movie star, who is currently shooting his latest film in Vancouver – a project that brings at least 3,000 jobs to town.

So, as a way of saying thanks for everything, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson honoured Dwayne Johsnon by declaring Oct. 19 “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Day.”

On Thursday night, Robertson presented Johnson with an official proclamation on the set of Skyscraper.

“Vancouver is the Greenest City in (the) World and The Rock makes the most ‘green’ with films generating worldwide revenue over $2 Billion,” the cheeky proclamation read. It also cited Johnson’s charitable work with children through The Rock Foundation, his short-lived CFL career, as well as how his “iconic fanny pack has become a style statement the world over.”

“Yes, we do smell what The Rock is cookin’,” the proclamation concludes. “I, Gregor Robertson, Mayor of the City of Vancouver, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER 19, 2017 as DWAYNE ‘THE ROCK’ JOHNSON DAY.”

The only problem? The proclamation, which was issued on the night of Oct. 19, was only made public the following day, essentially denying the people of Vancouver the chance to properly celebrate.

Still, on Friday, Johnson posted a video of himself happily receiving the proclamation from Roberston on his Instagram account, calling it “such a cool (and bad ass) honor” and Roberston “such a cool guy.”

“Thank you Mayor and your staff for being so gracious and welcoming to myself and our entire production crew to your city,” Johnson concluded. “Vancouver will always hold a special place in my DNA.”

It’s official: The Rock Day. Such a cool (and bad ass) honor to have the Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, present this proclamation to me last night on set. I’m a grateful man to be in the business of making big movies and entertainment that serve multiple purposes around the world. One of those critical purposes is providing jobs for thousands of hard working people, local businesses and economies every time we bring a production to town. Jobs and opportunities for people. And free waffles for me. Thank you Mayor and your staff for being so gracious and welcoming to myself and our entire production crew to your city. And thank you for this honor and thanks for being such a cool guy. Vancouver will always hold a special place in my DNA. Next time drinks on me.. #ItsOfficial #TheRockProc #October19th #Vancouver #TheRockDay ✊
