No, Steven Spielberg did not poach a dinosaur and proudly take a photo in front of his kill.
But that didn't stop scores of people from lashing out at the Oscar-winning director after a photo posted on Facebook that was meant to be satire went viral.
Facebook meme-maker Jay Branscomb posted the photo of Spielberg in front of a mechanical Triceratops on the set of the 1993 blockbuster 'Jurassic Park' on Sunday.
Branscomb sarcastically wrote: "Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man."
But it turns out not everyone got the joke.
The photo was shared more than 32,000 times, with some Facebook users commenting "disgusting,” others reporting the photo in hopes of "stopping these cowards," and one former fan vowing to no longer watch Spielberg’s movies.
However, plenty of others got the joke, which has since spawned new memes.
I can’t believe Steven Spielberg killed this alien all he wanted to do was go back home pic.twitter.com/Wuh9UAlr5Q
