In a clear case of out of sight, out of mind, Chinese officials visiting Ottawa for talks with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau this week did not want to see protesters across the street from the delegation’s hotel. So they requested the construction of a large temporary “privacy wall.”

The Westin Ottawa Hotel, on Colonel By Drive overlooking the Rideau Canal, confirmed to CTV Ottawa that officials with the delegation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang wanted the wall barricading the front of the hotel for the length of their stay. The hotel confirmed the wall was not built for security reasons or requested by the RCMP.

The wall is expected to be dismantled this weekend, following the Chinese premier’s departure for Montreal.
