Vancouver runners ready to honour Boston at Sun Run

VANCOUVER -- Tens of thousands of runners will compete in today's Vancouver Sun Run with the memories of the Boston Marathon bombing victims fresh in their minds.

The 10-kilometre event is Canada's largest road race and sets up a busy running season in cities across the country.

This year organizers are encouraging runners to wear yellow and blue -- the official colours of the Boston Marathon. A tribute to the victims is also planned.

A pair of bombs that exploded at the finish of the iconic race killed three people and injured more than 180 last Monday.

Organizers of the Sun Run say registration spiked after the attack as Vancouver runners wanted to show solidarity with the victims. A total of 48,196 participants had signed up before registration closed yesterday.

The weather looks favourable for the race, with a high of 12 degrees Celsius and a mix of sun and clouds, with a slight chance of morning showers.
