The University of Toronto ranked first in Canada and 16th in the world in the latest academic reputation rankings from Times Higher Education.

U of T maintained its status as Canada’s top-ranked school from last year while vaulting up four spots in the international rankings over 2014.

McGill University in Montreal, Que. ranked second in Canada and a distant 35th overall, followed by the University of British Columbia at 37th spot.

No other Canadian universities made the top 100 list.

Harvard University held on to first overall in the rankings, while the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford moved up into the second and third slots, respectively.

The fifth annual rankings by Times Higher Education were determined through an invitation-only poll of about 10,500 published scholars from 142 countries.

The rankings were released online on Wednesday.
