Suspicious package destroyed after being found at Halifax military base

HALIFAX -- A suspicious package found in a bus shelter today at Halifax's Navy dockyard has been safely destroyed.

Military spokesman Mike Bonin will not say what was found in the package or whether it posed a threat, citing the ongoing investigation.

However, Bonin says the military's explosive ordnance team detonated the package.

The area around Rainbow Gate was cordoned off and multiple military buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

There were no injuries.
