BERENS RIVER, Man. - RCMP say a six-year-old boy has died after being found in respiratory distress in a schoolyard on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg.

Offices responded to a call on Wednesday in the community of Berens River, where staff from the school found the boy.

He was taken to a nursing station when he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled, but foul play is not suspected.

The boy's name is not being released.

Officials from the Frontier School Division and the Manitoba government are visiting the school with counsellors to provide support to children, teachers and community members.
