The RCMP are investigating an incident in Okotoks, Alta. after a 19-year-old woman was attacked by a large group of teenagers over the weekend. Officers say the woman was walking along the Library footbridge leading to Woodhaven Drive around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday when she said she was surrounded by a gang of 11 teenagers. The woman said the group of 10 males and one female threw her to the ground and assaulted her. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to a walk-in clinic as a precaution.

The RCMP say they don’t know why the woman was attacked and they don’t have anyone in custody yet. They are appealing to the public for any information. Although they don’t have any details about the male suspects, the police have released a description of the lone female attacker. She is described as:

  • Short in stature
  • Broad shoulders
  • Skinny waist
  • Blonde hair in loose, long curls

Police are calling the attack a very rare occurrence and reassuring residents they don’t need to be concerned. But one resident in the area, Leslie Varger, is still planning on being extra careful.

“I think I would be very cautious,” Varger told CTV Calgary.

Although the area where the woman was attacked is popular with joggers and bikers, the path has no surveillance cameras and some concerned residents think it should be lit up more at night.

Police are asking that anyone with information about this incident contact them at (403) 938-4202 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
