The Ottawa Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating after a man was shot while sleeping in bed early Friday morning.

Police say the incident happened just after midnight, at an address on Ottawa's Innes Road.

The man, who has not been named, was sleeping when somebody fired bullets through his wall and window and into his bedroom, officers say.

"We know that the shots were fired from outside, through a wall," Ottawa Police Const. Marc Soucy told CTV Ottawa.

Police arrived on scene to find the man with non-life threatening injuries to his leg, a police press release says. He was taken to hospital and later released.

Soucy said the man's children and his wife were also in the house at the time of the shooting.

Police have not named any suspects in the case and have yet to make any arrests.

They are currently investigating whether the crime was gang-related.
