A northeast Edmonton neighbourhood is in shock after a severed human head was found in an alley Wednesday morning.

The head was discovered by a woman walking in the area around 7 a.m.

CTV sources say the head appears to be relatedto Saturday’s discovery of a body in Ranfurly, Alta., a hamlet with 69 residents located 120 kilometres east of Edmonton.

Locals said a driver on Range Road 121, northeast of the small community, found a decapitated body lying in the ditch over the weekend, just down the road from a reddish-brown pickup truck.

The state of the body wasn’t confirmed by the RCMP, who have said little more beyond confirming it was a homicide.

Police have not released the cause of death or gender of the victim, and are asking members of the public to come forward with any further information.
