FREDERICTON -- There's unanimous support among members of the New Brunswick legislature for the proposal to bring Western crude in a pipeline to Saint John.

All parties voted in favour yesterday for a motion stating the province supports the construction of a pipeline to ship western crude oil to Eastern Canada.

There's been growing signs of support for the idea.

Last week, federal Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver toured the Irving Oil refinery in Saint John and stated his government's support for a pipeline project to the East.

Oliver said as the United States increases its own oil and gas production, it's vital for Canada to diversify its oil export markets.

Speaking in the legislature, Premier David Alward says a pipeline will help New Brunswick become an "energy powerhouse."
