A military police officer at CFB Halifax has been charged with sexual assault.

The charge against Sgt. Kevin MacIntyre relates to a “sexual assault that took place in Glasgow, Scotland, in September 2015, while the accused was participating in an international exercise,” according to a statement from National Defence.

The alleged victim is also a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Lt.-Col. Francis Bolduc, Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, said the charge “reflects the ongoing commitment of the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service to fully investigate all sexual assault cases, no matter the accused, to support victims and defend against sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces.”

The military is currently working to implement a number of recommendations outlined in a report from former Supreme Court Justice Marie Deschamps, who wrote in 2015 that the military has a highly sexualized culture that can be hostile to women.
