CORNER BROOK, N.L. -- Police say a man faces charges following a nine-hour standoff with officers at a home in western Newfoundland.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says officers were called to a disturbance at a home in Corner Brook around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.

Police say a 38-year-old woman outside the home told officers she had been assaulted by a man who was still inside.

Police say she was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

Const. Scott Mosher says officers surrounded the home and eventually arrested a man without incident around 10:30 a.m.

Police say a 44-year-old man faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.
