MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - A 58-year-old man has been arrested for a second time in less than a month for allegedly stealing money from mosques in the Mississauga, Ont., area.

Ashraf Awad had previously been arrested and charged with stealing about $12,000 from six mosques between June 4 and 17. Police allege he would either steal locked donation boxes or break into them and remove the money.

Peel Region police now allege the Mississauga resident continued stealing money from mosques after his release.

He was arrested Thursday and faces numerous new charges, including three counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of break and enter and theft, mischief over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle and five counts of breach of recognizance.

Police say Awad is also wanted in other regions in the Toronto area for similar alleged offences.

He was being held for a bail hearing on Friday in Brampton, Ont.
