Edmonton police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for an Alberta man in connection with their investigation into the stabbing death of a 25-year-old Saskatchewan man.
Homicide detectives say Aaron Cote was found with stab wounds in the parking lot of an Edmonton Travelodge hotel on Dec. 18, after witnesses said a fight broke out between several men at a nearby strip club. Cote was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police believe Justin Kenneth Sandquist, 23, is responsible for Cote’s death.
Staff Sgt. Bill Clark said Sandquist was driving a white Ford truck at the time of the incident. The vehicle struck a friend of Cote’s at the nightclub, causing damage to the truck, police say. Investigators believe the suspect then chased the men to the Travelodge, exited his truck and stabbed Cote.
Sandquist, who is known to police, faces charges of first degree murder, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal hit and run.
Police said Sandquist has ties to Edmonton, High Prairie and Grande Prairie, where he may been last week.
Sandquist is described as Caucasian, 5’10 tall, 185 pounds with short, brown hair, hazel eyes and sleeve-style tattoos on his arms.
