An armoured Garda truck was rammed into and robbed in an alley in Montreal on Friday.

Police say the back of the armoured vehicle was rammed into by a front-end loader by at least one person around 2 p.m. Two Garda employees had left the truck unattended in an alley behind a Home Depot.

“As the employees went into the business, the suspect, or suspects, rammed into the armoured truck with a pay loader, causing a breach into the back doors,” said Daniel Lacoursiere of the Montreal police.

According to Lacoursiere, at least one of the suspects is believed to have entered the back of the truck to get the money before fleeing the scene. CTV Montreal has learned that about $200,000 was stolen from the armoured vehicle.

Investigators are now trying to find nearby security camera footage and are combing through the area for clues. The front-end loader was found about 15 metres away from the Garda truck.

No one was injured.

There are currently no suspects in the case but police are actively looking for who was behind the robbery.
