Canadian rap superstar Drake made a surprise appearance at Canada Day festivities in his hometown of Toronto on Sunday night.

Drake took to the stage at Nathan Phillips Square during an outdoor concert celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary.

The concert had promised several artists signed to Drake's record label, OVO Sound, but the multi-Grammy Award-winner was not expected to perform.

Drake took the stage at approximately 10 p.m. for a 10-minute set, which led into a planned fireworks display.

"I'm just so happy that I'm from a place where we really love each other," Drake told the crowd. "I've been so grateful."

The Toronto-born rapper wore a white T-shirt with the iconic Rolling Stones "tongue and lips" logo on it. However, the tongue had been changed to look like a Canadian flag.

More than 50,000 people were at Nathan Phillips Square for the performance.
