GATINEAU, Que. -- The Canadian Coast Guard says it has recovered a helicopter that crashed and sank in the icy Arctic Ocean, killing three men.
Two ships worked together to recover the wreckage of the Messerschmitt Bo-105 chopper that went down Sept. 9 in the M'Clure Strait.
One of the ships with the chopper on board was en route to shore where Transportation Safety Board investigators are to study the wreckage to help determine why it crashed.
It's not clear if the aircraft was equipped with a black box flight information recorder or if a black box was recovered.
The commander of the icebreaker Amundsen was among those killed in the crash.
Post-mortem examinations have suggested the men likely survived the impact, but later died of hypothermia after being in the frigid water for about one hour.
