A Calgary eye doctor has taken to song to express his frustration over the NHL lockout.
Arun Lakra teamed up with Juno-nominated singer Raghav to release “The NHL Lockout Song,” which protests the business behind the game.
“There’s no need to lock the door, or I swear I won’t wear it. I won’t buy your merch no more,” Raghav sings to the tune of Jason Mraz's“I’m Yours.”
Lakra also made a music video featuring his two children, who are just as disappointed by the lockout.
“I really love hockey… I don’t know what I’m going to do with no hockey,” Lakra’s son told CTV Calgary.
The video has been viewed nearly 30,000 times on YouTube.
Lakra said he wrote the song because “as fans we don’t have any recourse” against the lockout.
“We could threaten to boycott games when they come back, but that’s not going to happen. We go back as soon as the hockey starts again. We’ll be glued to the television and cheering on our Flames and our Penguins,” he said.
He added that he would stop buying merchandise for a year if the lockout continues.
The NHL’s collective agreement expired at midnight Saturday, and the league’s pre-season games are expected to be cancelled as early as next week.
