1. Vigil held in Winnipeg: Hundreds gathered Tuesday night to mourn the death of 15-year-old Tina Fontaine. The teen’s body, found wrapped in a bag, was pulled from the Red River on Sunday and her death has renewed calls for an inquiry into Canada’s murdered and missing aboriginal women.

2. Terminal mom gets dream wedding: A young mother diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer gets to marry her fiancé Wednesday thanks to donations from friends, family and strangers. A friend of 28-year-old bride-to-be Megan Wolfe set up fundraiser campaigns to collect money for a dress, a venue, a limousine and a cake.

3. Video purportedly shows beheading of U.S. journalist: Islamic State militants have released what they say is a video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley. Foley had been missing since 2012, and was last seen in northwest Syria. In the video, militants claim the beheading was retribution for U.S. airstrikes in Iraq. Obama is expected to make a statement on Foley’s death later today.

4. 'A mile in ALS shoes': One blogger is responding to the ubiquitous "ice bucket challenge" with a challenge of her own: to experience the symptoms of ALS first-hand. “If you would like to experience just a tiny corner of an ALS life, I have a list of Empathetic Experiences for you,” writes Bo Stern, whose husband suffers from the fatal disease. Her challenges include adjusting a rear-view mirror with 25 pounds of weight on your arm and communicating exclusively through a text-to-speech app on your phone.

5. World’s oldest man: A 111-year-old retired Japanese educator has been recognized as the world’s oldest living man. Sakari Momoi was born Feb. 5, 1903 in Japan’s Fukushima prefecture. He received a certificate today from Guinness World Records recognizing his status. The oldest-man title was previously held by a New York man, Alexander Imich, who passed after in June at the age of 111 years, 164 days.
