Here are the five stories you need to know this Tuesday morning: The Republican National Convention turns its attention to employment in the United States; about 80,000 civil servants are experiencing issues with their pay under a new system; two Air Transat pilots have been arrested for allegedly drinking before a trans-Atlantic flight; Conservative MP Michelle Rempel is set to discuss the plight of Yazidis fleeing persecution; and a driver in British Columbia is lucky to be alive after his Smart car collided with a 900-pound bull elk.

1. Trump’s party: Hot on the heels of a plagiarism controversy over Melania Trump’s keynote address, the Republican National Convention continues in Cleveland with the day two theme, "Make America Work Again."

2. Money problems: A few hundred government employees who haven't been paid in months will get their full paycheques -- including back-pay -- on the next payday. They’re just a handful of the approximately 80,000 civil servants affected by a new system that hasn’t been paying some at all, and others too much.

3. Drinking and flying: Officials say two Air Transat pilots were arrested at the Glasgow airport for allegedly consuming alcohol shortly before they were set to take off on a trans-Atlantic flight to Canada. The men, aged 39 and 37, have been charged with being “impaired through alcohol” and are due to appear in court on Tuesday.

4. Yazidis: Conservative MP Michelle Rempel’s press conference to discuss the plight of Yazidis fleeing persecution from Islamic militants today comes amid new information that suggests the previous Conservative government’s efforts on the file were minimal.

5. Elk vs. Smart car: A B.C. man survived a head-on crash with a 900-pound (400kg) bull elk last week, and he's crediting the little car he was driving for saving his life. Chris Markevich walked away from the rollover crash with minor cuts and scrapes.
