With the weekend just around the corner, here are the five things you need to know: an offshore publishing company accused of disseminating junk science and duping researchers has taken over the publishing of several respected Canadian medical journals, a joint CTV News/Toronto Star investigation has found; a Canadian-Iranian professor jailed in Iran returns home to Montreal today; recently released documents lay out the gifts given to cabinet ministers; two health ministers are addressing a conference about improving Canada's health-care system; and the visiting royals are scheduled to take part in a playdate today in Victoria.

1. Exclusive: Predatory Publishing: An offshore publishing company accused of disseminating junk science and duping researchers has taken over the publishing of several respected Canadian medical journals, a joint CTV News/Toronto Star investigation has found.

2. Back in Canada: A Canadian-Iranian professor who was jailed and held in Iran, is set to arrive back home in Montreal this morning. Homa Hoodfar was arrested and imprisoned in June, before her release was announced on Monday.

3. Gifts galore: Champagne and chocolate were some of the expensive gifts given to cabinet ministers, according to recently released documents. While Godiva chocolate and champagne were popular choices, there were some very Canadian entries, such as a $10 hockey puck.

4. Health ministers meeting: Health Minister Jane Philpott and Quebec's Minister of Health and Social Services are set to address a conference organized by Canada 2020 and the Canadian Medical Association on debating how to improve the health-care system, and how to help Canada's elderly population.

5. Royals in Victoria: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge head back to Victoria today, for a royal playdate with military families. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are expected to play along with children of families from the Military Family Resource Centre.
