Here are the five things you need to know this Wednesday: a Nova Scotia couple is calling on provincial officials to let them spend the last years of their lives together; WestJet pilots are expected to announce whether they will unionize; a Nova Scotia woman is being hailed as a hero after saving five from drowning; Pollster Nik Nanos breaks down the latest numbers for the election; and a young Edmonton girl gets a wish fulfilled by Taylor Swift.

1. Torn apart: A long time married Nova Scotia couple is calling on provincial officials to let them spend their final days in the same nursing home. Edgar and Theresa MacPhee have been married for 62 years but were forced to spend the last year in different nursing homes.

2. Unionizing? WestJet pilots are expected to announce the results of a secret ballot on whether or not they will form the airline’s first union.

3. Hero gives life: When Michelle Curtis saw her children swept out to sea along with five others at a Nova Scotia beach, she swam out to save them. But after bringing them back to shore, Curtis collapsed and died. "She saved the kids, she saved her son, she saved her daughter," her sister said. "I’m not at all surprised, she’s been my hero."

4. Nanos Party Power Index: Nik Nanos breaks down the latest polling numbers. Stephen Harper’s Conservatives made gains for the third week in a row, as Tom Mulcair’s NDP stayed steady once again.

5. Dream fulfilled: A five-year-old Edmonton girl got the wish from the top of her bucket list fulfilled on Tuesday night. Ava Hadfield, who suffers from a tumour on her brain stem, got to meet Taylor Swift after a social media campaign driven by friends and family.
