WATCH: Pilot turns plane around over Bluetooth device named with four-letter word

A United Airlines flight from Newark turned around after the name of a Bluetooth device sparked a mid-air security response.

A new video reveals what went on during a flight that was forced to turn around due to a “potential security concern.”

“We’re going to be returning back to Newark because we have one passenger that seemed to be making a funny joke that isn’t so funny, and it’s going to be compromising the safety of this flight,” said the pilot during an announcement on board the Spain-bound United Airlines flight last Saturday.

Multiple U.S.-based media outlets, as well as social media posts from passengers, reported that it was due to an active Bluetooth device named “BOMB.”

The flight left Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey around 6 p.m. local time on Saturday for Palma de Mallorca, Spain, The Associated Press reported. It returned to the airport just after 9:30 p.m.

Police from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey inspected the aircraft as passengers were told to get off and were screened again by border officials. The passengers later boarded another flight with a new crew early Sunday morning and arrived at Palma de Mallorca.

United Airlines had previous incidents, including an unruly passenger forcing a domestic flight to divert, and another plane hitting a truck and a light pole earlier in May.
