A live television broadcast is built around split-second timing, but one brief pause by a morning news anchor has become a reminder that even those delivering the news are human. A recent news clip from FOX13 Memphis has gone viral after a reporter wrapped up a live segment and tossed the broadcast back to the studio, where “Good Morning Memphis” anchor Dominique Dillon was shown resting her chin in her hands with her eyes closed. “I opened my eyes, and it was cutting to the next shot, and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe this just happened to me,’” Dillon said in an interview with NBC’s TODAY about the experience. However, she said the reason behind that sleepy moment was due to a lack of sleep the night before as she attempted to put her two-year-old and eight-month-old children to bed. “I was trying to get them down to sleep at 8 o’clock, but my 8-month-old, she wasn’t having it,” Dillon said. “She was teething, and I just couldn’t console her. I gave her some teething medicine and nothing was working. The next thing you know it’s 10:30, 11 o’clock before I can get actually get her down to sleep.” She said she only had a few hours of rest before she had to be in the studio the next day. Viewers respond with sympathy Rather than criticizing Dillon, many people on social media rushed to defend the news anchor, noting the demanding schedule that comes with early-morning television and the realities of balancing work and family. The video that lasted only a few seconds has now turned into a conversation about exhaustion and the pressures faced by working parents. Dillion said she appreciates the support she’s received through social media. “There’s so many mothers out there, and parents in general, who work hard. They show up to work, they give 100 per cent,” she said. “Then they go home, and that’s like a whole other full-time job as well, and they’re giving 100 per cent to their families.” Anchor embraces the moment After the broadcast, Dillion shared a light-hearted exchange with co-anchor Ernie Freeman, who posted a photo joking that it was time for Dillon to catch another nap. The following day, she shared an Arnold Schwarzenegger quote on social media: “Every morning, you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them,” adding that the words came from her former California governor. Dillon recently welcomed her second child, giving many viewers another reason to understand why a few quiet seconds on live television resonated far beyond the newsroom. In an industry where every moment is visible, the overwhelming support for Dillion suggests that even the people bringing the day’s headlines could use a little grace themselves.
