A 19-year-old Nova Scotia woman is still missing after a ground search Monday proved fruitless in the area of New Glasgow, N.S.

Police say that Amber Kirwan was last spotted at a local pool hall during the early morning hours of Sunday, where she had been spending time with friends.

After about 1:30 a.m., Kirwan told her friends that she was heading to a nearby convenience store to meet her boyfriend.

But Kirwan's boyfriend, Mason Campbell, said that when he arrived at the store, there was no sign of Kirwan.

"The second I got there and she wasn't there, it was completely out of character right there and then," Campbell told CTV.

"She's not the type of person not to call either her parents or me or any of her friends," he said.

Campbell said he is worried about his girlfriend, and he said that she could be lost or being held against her will.

On Monday, police checked in with local businesses in the tight-knit community. They also probed cab companies and spoke with friends and family about the young woman's whereabouts.

Police haven't gone public with any leads they may have gleaned from the ongoing investigation.

Search teams also checked wooded areas in the community, and boats were seen checking the East River, which flows through the centre of the area.

Already, many in the town are concerned about Kirwan.

"It must touch everyone. ...It doesn't matter who it is, it's somebody's daughter," said local resident Joyce White.

White, like many others in the town, helped out with the search over the long weekend.

Police are asking for anyone with any information about Kirwan's whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers.
