Wildfires are creating disruptions for some Manitoba First Nations on Monday morning, prompting the need for vehicle bans and evacuations. According to social media posts from Peguis First Nation, chief and council have declared a state of emergency for the community. Residents are being advised that there is a ban on riding ATVs and other off-road vehicles within the First Nation. Peguis First Nation notes this step is being taken to keep community members safe and protect infrastructure as the fires rage on. Anyone found driving an ATV during the ban will face fines from the RCMP. The fire in the Peguis First Nation area, which is now under control, destroyed one home. Residents of the Big Eddy and Carrot River areas can return to their homes following evacuation orders. However, they are urged to remain on high alert and stay prepared for any potential changes. As of Monday morning, about 60 homes in the area were evacuated. No homes were destroyed and no one has been injured. Big Eddy and Carrot River residents who do not feel safe returning home can still seek temporary shelter at the Veterans Hall and the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre.
