Canada Day is coming up next week, with several activities, events and celebrations taking place across Manitoba. Here’s what’s happening in Winnipeg and around the province on July 1 in celebration of our country. Assiniboine Park Assiniboine Park is hosting a day filled with entertainment and fun, including musical performances at the Lyric Stage, a bouncy castle and face painting on Lyric Field, and salsa and bachata sessions at The Leaf. There will also be a citizenship ceremony at 11:30 a.m. where 30 new Canadians will take their citizenship oath. The full list of events, which run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., can be found online. The Forks The Forks has a full slate of Canada Day activities, including dance battles, a basketball tournament, food trucks, and skateboarding demonstrations. Though there will not be fireworks this year, visitors have the chance to take in cultural performances, live music and an Indigenous Youth Empowerment Panel. Events will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A full schedule of events can be found on The Forks’ website. Assiniboia Downs Those looking for Canada Day fireworks can get their fix at Assiniboia Downs. The activities begin with live horse racing at 7:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display to light up the night sky. After the fireworks, visitors will be treated to some music to keep the celebrations going. Princess Auto Stadium Canada Day at Princess Auto Stadium will begin with a tailgating area from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event will feature face painting, hoop dancers, and Mariachi music. The tailgate will be followed by mainstage entertainment, which includes musical performances by Jade Turner and Big Wreck and a fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. More information on the event can be found online. Sage Creek The Sage Creek Residents’ Association will host the community’s Canada Day party at Ron Duhamel Park from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event will feature a makers’ market, photo booth, and live performances. The celebration will finish with a fireworks display from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the baseball field. Transcona Transcona residents can head out to the Centennial Square for the Canada Day Festival from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a farmer’s market, lawn games, balloon animals, while indulging in some hot dogs. The City of Brandon The City of Brandon is hosting a Canada Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. The event includes live musical performances, a kids’ zone with a sandpitand bouncy castle, and a market with food, crafts and jewelry. The day will wrap up with a fireworks show at 11 p.m. The City of Selkirk Celebrations in Selkirk will take place at the waterfront beginning at 4 p.m. Activities include a market with handmade goods, kid-friendly entertainment, and a fireworks display at 11 p.m. The full schedule is available on the City of Selkirk website.
