WestJet is dropping flights from Winnipeg to a pair of destinations in the southern United States, citing a drop in transborder travel between the U.S. and Canada, throughout 2025. WestJet confirmed to CTV News on Tuesday it is suspending direct flights from Winnipeg to Nashville and Atlanta, noting the airline has seen a “notable decline” in demand. “As a result, we made timely decisions to modify our network to stay aligned with where Canadians want to go,” said Julia Kaiser, a spokesperson for WestJet, in an emailed statement. WestJet had been offering flights between Winnipeg and Atlanta since 2023 to connect Winnipeg to a major Delta Airlines hub, according to an announcement at the time. Flights between Winnipeg and Atlanta were dropped to two flights per week last August. WestJet had previously suspended direct flights between Winnipeg and Los Angeles and Las Vegas, citing a drop in cross-border travel. According to the most recent data from Statistics Canada, Canadians made 2.2 million return trips from the United States in November 2025, a 23.6 per cent year-over-year decrease. Kaiser said that demand for domestic travel and travel to Latin America, the Caribbean, transatlantic and transpacific destinations remains strong, and WestJet is increasing capacity to service Halifax, Thunder Bay, Kelowna and Toronto. -With files from CTV’s Daniel Otis
