A Thompson woman has died after a head-on crash on a Manitoba highway. Mounties say they responded just after 10 a.m. on Friday to a fatal, head-on collision on Highway 280, about 80 kilometres north of Thompson, Man. Police say the crash involved two trucks, one of which was pulling a trailer hauling a small excavator. The southbound truck, which police say was driven by a 48-year-old Thompson woman, tried to pass a semi-truck when it was not safe to do so. That resulted in a head-on collision with a northbound truck, officers say. The woman died at the scene. The 23-year-old man from Gimli who was driving the other truck was treated in hospital for his injuries. Police say no charges are expected. Weather is believed to have been a factor, Mounties said, with recent snow on the road affecting visibility.
