The crew of a flight from Winnipeg, Man., earlier this year spotted something unusual in the sky, prompting a report to Transport Canada. According to an incident report filed on Friday, the crew of a WestJet flight travelling from Winnipeg to Calgary noticed a “basketball-sized object at 13,000 feet” at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 19. The incident report online offers no other details about what the object may have been, but it was filed under the category “Weather balloon, meteor, rocket, UFO.” It said no other aircraft reported spotting the item. UFO expert and author Chris Rutkowski said the information put out about the incident is vague, and it’s hard to know what exactly the object is without a full investigation. He said the circumstances surrounding the sighting merits an investigation. “What we can say is that this was an unidentified object that was of concern to the pilots involved, enough to the point where they had to file an incident report,” Rutkowski said. “There are a lot of people on board these aircraft, and that should cause some concern.” CTV News has reached out to WestJet and Transport Canada for more details and is awaiting a response.
