Residents of Winnipeg’s Niakwa Place neighbourhood were treated to a surprise visitor Tuesday night. CTV News photojournalist Dan Timmerman captured a large snapping turtle walking across the street in the neighbourhood. Residents of the neighbourhood gathered around to relish as the titanic reptile waddled by towards a nearby pond. Snapping turtles, like other turtles, enter a state of hibernation starting in the late fall called brumation, sitting in mud and silt at the bottom of lakes and rivers, according to Wildlife Preservation Canada.
