The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is coming up on Tuesday with several events in Winnipeg honouring residential school survivors and the children who never made it home. Truth and Reconciliation Day – also known as Orange Shirt Day – is a provincial statutory holiday for Manitobans to reflect on the legacy and impact of residential schools in Canada. Events happening in Winnipeg to mark Truth and Reconciliation Day on Sept. 30 include: Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow 10 a.m. – Pipe ceremony at Oodena Circle at The Forks 11 a.m. – Healing walk to the RBC Convention Centre 1 p.m. – Pow Wow Grand Entry at the RBC Convention Centre Assiniboia Residential School Legacy Group Memorial Event at Theodore Niizhotay Fontaine Park (621 Academy Rd.) 7:30 a.m. – Pipe ceremony 10 a.m. – Speeches and heritage plaque unveiling Main Street Project Embrace and Support – Walking the Healing Path Together Events at several locations around Winnipeg Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc.
