Winnipeg police arrested a man after a report of robbery in a grocery store. The store is in the 600 block of Stafford Street. Officers learned that a man came into the store at 5:15 p.m., picked some meat products and allegedly tried to leave without paying. A security guard intervened, then the man allegedly tried to stab the guard with a knife. The guard was punched and received minor injuries, and the man fled empty-handed before officers’ arrival. A little before 6 p.m., police found the man in the 100 block of Osborne Street and arrested him without incident. Officers were able to find a knife on his person. During the arrest, the 28-year-old man became “uncooperative and belligerent with officers, yelling profanities and refusing to identify himself,” according to a media release. The man is now facing charges of robbery, possession of a weapon, obstructing peace officer, and failure to comply with a release order. He was detained in custody.
